Question 1

What makes Anchor & Ash different from other men's skincare brands?

Accepted Answer

We use time-tested natural ingredients — grass-fed tallow, beeswax, botanical oils, and non-nano zinc oxide — instead of synthetic fillers, parabens, and chemicals you can't pronounce. Our products are built for function. Four products, one complete system designed for men who live and work in the elements. No unnecessary complexity, no marketing fluff.

Question 2

What is grass-fed tallow and why is it better than synthetic moisturizers?

Accepted Answer

Grass-fed tallow is rendered fat from pasture-raised cattle. Its fatty acid profile — primarily oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids — closely mirrors the natural oils human skin produces. This biological compatibility means tallow absorbs deeply without clogging pores, providing genuine barrier repair rather than temporary surface moisture. Synthetic creams typically rely on water, glycerin, and silicones that sit on top of the skin rather than integrating with it. Grass-fed tallow is also rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support skin cell renewal and repair.

Question 3

What is non-nano zinc oxide and why is it safer than chemical sunscreen?

Accepted Answer

Non-nano zinc oxide is a mineral UV filter with particles larger than 100 nanometers — too large to penetrate the skin barrier or enter the bloodstream. It physically reflects and scatters both UVA and UVB radiation rather than absorbing it chemically. Chemical sunscreen ingredients like oxybenzone and avobenzone have been shown to absorb into the bloodstream at concentrations that raise FDA safety concerns. Non-nano zinc oxide stays where it belongs — on the skin's surface — and provides photostable, broad-spectrum protection without systemic absorption.

Question 4

Are your products safe for sensitive or reactive skin?

Accepted Answer

Our formulas are free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, and PEG compounds. Tallow-based products are generally well-tolerated because the fatty acid profile is compatible with the skin's own lipid structure, which can be a good match for men with chronically dry or easily irritated skin. If you have a specific ingredient allergy or known sensitivity, contact us and we'll walk through the full ingredient list with you before you buy.

Question 5

What are the key active ingredients in the Field Recovery balm?

Accepted Answer

Field Recovery contains organic menthol crystals (which produce a cooling sensation on the skin), organic hemp extract containing CBG, CBD, and CBGa (zero THC), and organic lavender — delivered in a base of organic hemp seed oil, organic beeswax, and organic shea butter. The beeswax and oil base creates an occlusive layer that slows evaporation and supports absorption. No synthetic painkillers or chemicals.

Question 6

What botanicals do you use and why?

Accepted Answer

Across our products we use organic sunflower seed oil (a lightweight carrier rich in vitamin E that supports the skin barrier), organic hemp seed oil (omega-rich and calming for overworked skin), organic cacao butter (rich in antioxidants and fatty acids that soften weather-beaten skin), organic shea butter (deeply nourishing and protective), green tea extract (an antioxidant), and organic orange peel wax. Every botanical in our formulas is there for a specific function.

Question 7

Are your products tested on animals?

Accepted Answer

No. Anchor & Ash products are never tested on animals.

Question 8

What is the Anchor & Ash 4-step system?

Accepted Answer

Our system addresses the four core functions every man's skin actually needs: Protect (Daily Armor — non-nano zinc oxide mineral sunscreen worn each morning), Repair (Daybreak — daily repair moisturizer with mineral SPF for face and body), Restore (Night Repair — a richer overnight treatment to support skin renewal), and Recover (Field Recovery — targeted relief for muscle soreness and physical stress). These four products cover everything. Nothing is redundant.

Question 9

Do I need all four products, or can I start with one?

Accepted Answer

You can absolutely start with one. The most common entry point is either Daily Armor (especially for men who spend time outdoors) or Daybreak (for men dealing with chronic dryness). Each product stands on its own. That said, the system was designed to work together — each product addresses a different time of day and a different type of skin stress. Most men who start with one product end up building the full system over time.

Question 10

How long will one product last?

Accepted Answer

With daily use, each product typically lasts 4–6 weeks. Field Recovery may last longer depending on how frequently you use it for targeted muscle relief versus daily maintenance.

Question 11

Can I use Daybreak on my body, not just my face?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Daybreak works anywhere you need deep moisturization and broad-spectrum protection — face, neck, hands, elbows, knees, and dry patches anywhere on the body. It's particularly effective on cracked or weathered skin on the hands, which is common among men in trades, agriculture, and outdoor work.

Question 12

What order should I apply the products?

Accepted Answer

Morning: Daybreak for daily repair and mineral SPF, then Daily Armor for extended sun exposure. Evening: cleanse if desired, then Night Repair before bed. Field Recovery can be applied any time — after a workout, after a long day, or before bed for targeted muscle relief.

Question 13

Why should I wear sunscreen every day, even in winter?

Accepted Answer

UV radiation is present year-round, regardless of cloud cover or temperature. UVA rays — the ones primarily responsible for photoaging (wrinkles, dark spots, collagen breakdown) — penetrate clouds and glass. Men who drive for work accumulate significant UVA exposure on the left side of their face over years. Winter UVB levels are lower, but UVA exposure remains consistent. Daily mineral sunscreen is the single highest-return investment in long-term skin health.

Question 14

Will Daily Armor leave a white cast?

Accepted Answer

Some white cast is inherent to non-nano zinc oxide due to its larger particle size — this is actually the evidence that it's staying on the surface of your skin rather than absorbing in. Our formulation minimizes this through careful zinc concentration and base formulation. On most skin tones, any residual white cast is minimal and settles within a minute of application.

Question 15

Can I use Daily Armor on my body, not just my face?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Daily Armor is formulated for the face but works well anywhere on the body — neck, chest, forearms, or any areas with frequent sun exposure. For full-body coverage during extended outdoor activity, apply generously and reapply every 2 hours.
